Commonly known as the Bird of Paradise, Strelitzia reginae is a large, evergreen plant that produces long-stalked leaves with striking orange and blue flowers that resemble an exotic bird. These stunning flowers appear on long stems during spring and summer and provide a stunning contrast against the blue-green foliage. Strelitzia reginae will add a definite tropical-paradise feel to any garden or landscape. Strelitzia reginae is an ideal feature plant in the garden bed, or pots and containers. The flowers and foliage are also used in flower arrangements. Plant in an area of full sun to partial shade, with well-drained soil. Strelitzia reginae is relatively low maintenance. Keep soils moist during the growing season, and through extended hot periods. Strelitzia reginae can grow to a height of 2 m and a width of 1.5 m.
