The Coral Tree is a medium-sized, showy, deciduous tree normally growing to around 10m. The bark is smooth and green when young, exfoliating in papery flakes, becoming thick, corky and deeply fissured with age. Flowers in bright pink to scarlet erect terminal racemes, 15-20 cm long stamens will protrude slightly from the flower. These flowers make their striking appearance among the leafless branches from winter through to spring. These short-lived flowers are quickly followed by the new leaves in early summer. These flowers are like an aviary, attracting many birds and animals through their showy visage.
Works well as an ornamental feature tree.
