Around mid-summer this Japanese native will bloom white to pale lilac flowers, slowly followed by a small navy berries. This evergreen perennial is a popular border choice for dividing garden and pathways. It will also grow as a dense flat ground cover in areas of deep shade to semi-sun locations. Flourishing is soils that are sandy, loam as well as clay based. Ophiopogon japonicus will tolerate frost and wind. Water well until established and keep soil moist during dry weather. Use slow release fertilizer annually. If planting in containers, use a premium potting mix. Ophiopogon japonicus will grow to a height of 25 centimetres with a width of 50 centimetres.
